The new repertoire of the Lucerne Theater – “House in the house” and two new bosses for the opera
“Real? Really!»: That’s the motto for the new program at the Luzerner Theater. It addresses all sorts of things: authenticity, astonishment, maybe even skepticism. At the start of the season, a “house within a house” will be built. And the opera division is given shared leadership with a new director and a new music director.
At the start of the 2023/24 season, the two-storey 360-degree stage “Das Haus” is to be built in the Lucerne theater. The world premiere of Raoul Schrott’s new version of Oresteia and the opera with Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas will be performed there. The building designed by in-house scenographer Valentin Köhler is to be a real house, a 150-year-old cider factory from the Lucerne area, in the middle of the theater hall. The audience sits around the building of hand-hewn beams, so each seat offers a different perspective of the interior. This was announced this morning at the Lucerne Theater media orientation.
