After the cup embarrassment in Delémont on Wednesday, Lucerne coach Mario Frick wanted to make a statement. He promoted Ardon Jashari, who was willing to change before the season, back to captain. And with his goal in the second half, he promptly led the Central Swiss team to a home victory over GC. In the 48th minute, the 21-year-old shot the ball into the net to make it 2-0 following Pius Dorn’s impressive preparatory work.
There was no reaction from the guests. GC didn’t manage to get a shot on goal following the break and were even lucky that the result wasn’t even worse. After the second goal, Lucerne focused primarily on extending their lead over time. Every now and then the home team looked for a way forward – and then often became dangerous.
For example, following a flash of light from Jashari in the 77th minute: The captain played a remarkable through ball to Lars Villiger, who passed GC keeper Justin Hammel. The 3-0 seemed just a formality when Kristers Tobers was just able to save with a tackle on the line. So it remained 2-0 in Lucerne. The Zurich team remained harmless in the final phase and suffered their next defeat.
Okou with his first goal in the Super League
In the first half, Lucerne had already largely controlled the action. GC presented itself defensively as usual and did well – with one exception. Théo Ndicka wanted to clear the ball in the 26th minute with a cross from his own half. However, this was blocked by Dorn with his back, from which the ball jumped into the box directly in front of Teddy Okou’s feet. The striker effortlessly rounded Hammel and slotted in to make it 1-0.
Shortly before the break, the GC keeper was the focus once more. The 22-year-old kicked past the ball on a back pass, almost putting his team behind by another length. Hammel made up for the mistake by clearing the ball off the line at the last moment – with his hand. An indirect free kick, which would probably have been due, was not awarded to the home team.
This is how it continues
