Man dies in self-accident in Hasle – numerous other accidents due to snow

Numerous accidents occurred in the canton of Lucerne on Saturday. A driver died in a self-accident in Hasle. Some of the people who caused the accident were driving with summer tires.

The Lucerne police reported a total of ten accidents in a statement on Sunday. The causes of accidents range from summer tires on snow-covered roads to drunk drivers and unsuccessful overtaking manoeuvres.

Hazelnut

On Saturday, a 59-year-old driver drove at half past nine in the evening on the side road from Hasle towards Romoos. Presumably because of a health problem, he got off the road and fell in the Gitzilochflue area over a rock face about 50 meters high. The car came to a standstill on the banks of the Kleine Emme lying on its roof. The driver died at the scene of the accident.

Entlebuch – Finsterwald district

On Saturday morning, a car in the Finsterwald district, Vorder Gefellen, slid off the snow-covered road shortly before 7 a.m. and got stuck in an embankment. The Wolhusen fire department secured the car and rescued two people from the vehicle. Nobody got hurt. The car suffered material damage of around 5,000 francs.

Shortly after 11 a.m. on Saturday, a driver was driving in Triengen on the cantonal road in the direction of Sursee. For unknown reasons, he got into the oncoming lane, where he collided head-on with a Postbus. The driver was taken to a hospital by ambulance. An alcohol test revealed a value of 0.78 per mille. There was property damage of around 80,000 francs. The traffic had to be diverted by the Triengen Regiowehr for around two hours.

Sursee

On Saturday at 1.15 p.m., a driver coming from Geuensee wanted to turn onto the motorway towards Lucerne at the A2 junction. He collided with an oncoming motorcycle. The motorcyclist was seriously injured in the collision and had to be taken to the hospital by the ambulance service. There was property damage of around 13,500 francs.

Schlierbach

On Saturday at 5:20 p.m., a female driver with summer tires drove on the snow-covered road from Krumbach in the direction of Wetzwil. She came into the oncoming lane and crashed into an oncoming vehicle, which then touched a wooden fence. There was property damage of around 27,000 francs. Nobody got hurt.

Lucerne – Littau district

Shortly after nine o’clock on Saturday evening, a car that was traveling from Obernau in the direction of Littau with summer tires got into the oncoming lane on the snow-covered road in a right-hand curve and collided with an oncoming car. Nobody got hurt. There was property damage of around 60,000 francs. The Renggstrasse had to be closed for several hours.

Beromünster – Ortsteil Neudorf

On Saturday evening at 10.15 p.m. in the Lindeweidli area, a driver left the road on the snow-covered road, got into the adjacent meadow and came to a standstill in a stream lying on the left side of the vehicle. Nobody got hurt. The amount of property damage is still unknown.

Schenkon

On Saturday at 11:40 p.m., a driver wanted to overtake another car on the A2 motorway near Schenkon in a southerly direction. His car collided with the central barrier. The vehicle slid across the two lanes onto the breakdown lane, where it crashed into the right-hand guardrail. Nobody got hurt. There was property damage of around 35,000 francs.

Schüpfheim

On Sunday morning shortly before 3 a.m., a drunk driver who was driving from Entlebuch in the direction of Schüpfheim got off the road at the entrance to the village and crashed into a street lamp. A breath test showed the driver a value of 1.34 per mille. No one was injured, and the amount of property damage is not yet known.

Udligenswill

On Sunday at half past four in the morning near the Götzentalstrasse intersection, a car fitted with summer tires veered off the snow-covered road and overturned to the left. Nobody got hurt. The amount of property damage is still unknown. (mha)
