A 50-year-old man who recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo with fever, anemia, and respiratory problems is under observation in Lucca, Italy, while tests are being conducted to rule out the possibility of a link to the mysterious disease spreading in Congo.
Though the man was discharged on December 3rd, physicians are awaiting the results from lab analyses conducted at the Higher Institute of Health in Rome.
“The patient was very worried when he arrived. He had returned here because his fever wouldn’t subside.
We treated him with antibiotics and he ultimately recovered,” shared Sara Moneta, lead doctor at Lucca’s San Luca hospital.
