Lucas Fernández del Río receives mention in Sembrando Arte 2024 for his work at Molino Caorsi

On Tuesday, October 3, the Hotel Sofitel Montevideo Casino Carrasco & Spa was the scene of the second edition of the national competition Sembrando Arte 2024where 19 amateur artists from all over Uruguay were recognized. Among them, the Duraznense Lucas Fernández del Río got a special mention for his work inspired by Mill Caorsi.

Lucas Fernández del Río obtains the Bios Institute Special Mention

He Sowing Art contestorganized by the Sowing programin conjunction with various institutions such as Cotton Nation, Coderthe Republic Bank Foundation, Salusthe Qatar Embassy and the Bios Institutehighlighted artistic talent at the national level. In this edition, the work “Old Caorsi” by Lucas Fernandez del Riorepresentative of Peachwas awarded the Bios Institute Special Mention.

Contest winners and mentions

During the ceremony, the artists were awarded and the national winner was announced, Port Sunby Maldonado, whose work The Sierra Ballena fault got the Primer Premio Katoen Natie. In addition, five special mentions were awarded:

  • Special Mention Embassy of Qatar: Lucía Fernández Rocca (Montevideo), work “Japanese Garden Pond”
  • Special Mention Banco República Foundation: Stella Burgues (Florida), work “June 3”
  • Salus Special Mention: William Rivas Pereyra (Lavalleja), work “Passion in Pingos”
  • Codere Special Mention: Rita Barros (Tacuarembó), work “Calma”

The theme and objective of Sembrando Arte

Uruguayan customs as the central axis of the contest

This year, the artists worked under the theme of Uruguayan customsreflecting in his works landscapes of rivers, native mountains, beaches, ports, fields and elements of the local culture. With more than 300 registeredthe jury selected an artist for each department, seeking to promote art and decentralized culture throughout the country.

The objective of the contest was promote culture and artistic development within the framework of the orange economypromoting the creation of income for local artists.

Exhibitions and upcoming locations

Selected works on exhibition in Montevideo

The winning works, including those of the 19 departmental representatives, will be on display in three locations in Montevideo:

  • Tea Gallery de Sofitel Montevideo: from 3/10 to 17/10
  • Hall of Tower 3 of the WTC Montevideo: from 10/18 to 11/13
  • Democracy Passage of the Legislative Palace: from 11/14 to 12/8

The cultural management and assembly of the exhibitions are in charge of Maria Berrielwho seeks to offer a platform of visibility to participating artists.
