Luca Salvadori killed in crash in Frohburg

Luca Salvadori – Hengelo 2024

The final round of the International Road Racing Championship (IRRC) in Frohburg was overshadowed by a fatal accident on Saturday evening. The 32-year-old Italian Luca Salvadori was killed in a crash on the first lap of the Superbike & Superstock race.

The International Road Racing Championship (IRRC) has descended on Frohburg, Germany this weekend for the sixth – and final – round of the season. The two IRRC Supersport and IRRC Superbike races will decide who will be crowned champion this season on Sunday.

Saturday night, things went wrong right at the start of the second Superbike qualifying session on the first lap. Local hero Didier Grams crashed in the fast left-hand corner before the start and finish together with Luca Salvadori. It was immediately clear that both riders had suffered serious injuries in this seemingly horrific crash.

On Sunday morning it was announced that Salvadori, who in addition to being a talented driver in Italy is also known as a very popular influencer, died in hospital during the night from Saturday to Sunday as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The 32-year-old rider from Milan, who was previously active as a rider in the WorldSBK paddock and was active as a rider in the FIM MotoE World Cup in 2023, made his debut as a Roadracer in the IRRC this season during the International Road Races in Hengelo (Gld). After Hengelo and Schleiz, Salvadori rode his third race weekend in the IRRC in Frohburg, a race weekend that turned fatal for him on Saturday evening, much to the dismay of the close-knit IRRC family.

Last weekend in Cremona Salvadori won another race counting towards the National Trophy, a national Italian competition in which he leads the championship standings.

Grams also suffered serious injuries in the crash, the German has numerous broken bones. However, according to the latest reports from Frohburg, his injuries are not life-threatening.

The event in Frohburg will go ahead as planned on Sunday, but participants were given the freedom to decide whether or not they want to take part in the races during a special briefing on Sunday morning.
