Luc Ferrandez will take over from Bernard Drainville at 98.5 FM

Luc Ferrandez will host Without reservation, every midday on weekdays, on 98.5 FM from August 22 in the Quebec metropolis. He will remain surrounded by the team of collaborators in place, which is notably composed of Meeker Guerrier in sports, Luc Lavoie in public affairs and Marie-Ève Tremblay in social issues. Nevertheless, the door will be open for other voices over time, he says.

He worked throughout the summer with the 98.5 FM team to develop his reflexes from columnist to those of host. I think we are almost there, he explains, in an interview with Radio-Canada. I don’t think I’ll be good in the first few months, but following that I’ll be able to give my color to the show and bring the people I want.

His main challenge in his transition to animation? Ask questions shorter than answershe replies.

More exchange

Preparing his columns required him regarding two hours of research and reading to develop a documented opinion, as he says, on the issues he was addressing. At the helm of the noon show, he will host 12 10-minute segments. You cannot be an expert in all 12 topics and devote 2 hours of research to each interventionhe points out.

You must agree to trust your general knowledge, your collaborators and the word of the person invited.

The transition from columnist to host will also allow him to be more in the exchange. When I am a columnist, I try to get my points across at all costs. When you are an animator, you have someone in front of you. You have to show more openness, and in this openness there is perhaps more truth than in the simple affirmation of your thoughts.

Offer a constructive broadcast

In the long term, Luc Ferrandez hopes that his program will be part of the quest for solutions to the major challenges of our society, such as the aging of the population, the protection of young people or the housing crisis.

I was in power, I know that the State cannot always do better and that it cannot be responsible for everything. It must be understood that the stakes are greater than the tools available to the state.

So there’s no point in pressing the indignation button every day, he continues. You have to go to the source of the problem, identify it, then look for people capable of providing solutions.

Direct contact with the public

His three years of radio gave Luc Ferrandez the possibility of expressing himself without his words being transformed.

When I was mayor, nine times out of 10, people heard from me what others wanted to say, he explains. Editorial writers have made it their business to invent things, to dramatize my remarks or satanize me.

Today, he feels that the public has gotten to know him and that the way he is perceived has changed.

When you’re behind the mic, you can’t lie regarding your image. If you’re there every day, people get to know who you are.

« A lot of people have said to me, ‘I hated you when you were mayor and now I realize that I often agree with you, and when I don’t I at least recognize that you have worked on your file”. »

A quote from Luc Ferrandez, radio host

Towards a future return to politics?

By succeeding Bernard Drainville on the airwaves, will he later take the same path as him: that of returning to politics? You never know, he replies, but not in the short or medium term. I have a 10 year old child.

And if Luc Ferrandez plunges back into political life, it will be above all out of a sense of duty, to make his contribution to the resolution of a social crisis. I will not go into politics in joy and gladness.
