The Irene Neto Maternity Hospital in the municipality of Lubango, capital of the province of Huíla, successfully assisted, from January to November this year, a total of 16,700 births, at a rate of 50 per day.

The information was provided in the city of Lubango, by the director of the Maternal and Child Hospital, Irina Jacinto, during a visit that the vice-president of the MPL, Luísa Damião, made to that health unit.
According to Irina Jacinto, of the 16,700 births attended at the aforementioned health unit, around 4,008 involved surgical intervention due to complications during labor in pregnant mothers.
Irina Jacinto also said that the rehabilitation of the Lubango Maternity Hospital supported the quality of a Regional Mother and Child hospital, which simultaneously serves the provinces of Bié, Huambo, Cunene and Namibe.
510 cases of cancer
From January to November this year, the Lubango Maternity Hospital registered around 510 patients with various types of cancer, with emphasis on uterine and breast cancer.
According to him, most of these patients are from the province of Namibe, which also leads the chart of provinces that most use the Lubango Maternity services.
“In the southern region of the country, the province that uses our services the most is Namibe, particularly with the municipalities of Camucuio and Bibala, followed by the province of Cunene” he stated.
On the other hand, the health official reported that high-risk obstetric consultations were carried out over a period of 11 months, in a total of 3,349 cases; 2917 gynecology consultations.
At the Emergency Bank (BU) of the Lubango Regional Maternal and Child Hospital, 17,348 patients were treated in the same period.
Irina Jacinto also revealed that from January to November this year, a total of 10,800 women joined family planning at the Lubango Maternity Hospital.
Lack of staff worries the management of the Lubango Maternity Hospital
The lack of staff to meet the needs of the Lubango Maternity Hospital continues to be a concern for its management, which claims there is a greater deficit.
Without specifying the number of staff needed to fill this deficit, the director of the Regional Maternal and Child Hospital of Lubango, Irina Jacinto, said that the greatest need lies with specialist doctors.
In his opinion, the situation has become more acute with the passing of many health technicians who retire every year and others who cease their active work due to illness.
“Our Hospital is doing well, it continues to provide the services for which it is designed, we have human resources needs and a larger budget, we have a greater demand from patients, despite the fact that each year more staff are added, it is necessary understand that every year many people retire” he explained.
In addition to the lack of human resources, with emphasis on specialized nurses and doctors, Irina Jacinto also points out the lack of medicines to meet the demands of the users of that health unit.
MPLA responds to the need for medicines with more than 13 thousand boxes
The MPLA Vice-President worked last weekend in the province of Huíla, where she visited the municipalities of Humpata, Chibia and Lubango.
During her stay in the municipality of Lubango, Capital of the Province of Huíla, Luísa Damião, visited the Regional Maternal and Child Hospital, Comarada Irene Neto, where she was informed regarding its operation, as well as her needs.
In response to the needs presented by the director of that health unit, Luísa Damião delivered 13,215 boxes of various medicines, with emphasis on essential medicines and those to combat malaria.
