The Paraguayan Olympian shocked the swimming world when, after missing the semifinals of the 100-meter butterfly, she made a most unexpected announcement.
Luana Alonso ended her career – only 20 years old.
– It didn’t turn out the way I wanted. I sincerely apologize to my homeland, but I did what I could, despite everything that happened to me before. I am content to retire here with a full arena in front of the Olympic crowd, she said.
Yesterday it was also clear that she is leaving the Olympic village.
But not on your own initiative.
“Don’t want to let lies shape me”
According to The Sun the Paraguayan athlete is thrown out. Something that is confirmed by the former tennis player Larissa Schaerer, who is now the general secretary of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee.
– Her presence creates an inappropriate atmosphere within the Paraguayan squad, says Schaerer.
Exactly what Luana Alonso must have done to create this atmosphere is not clear, but it is clear that she did not follow the squad’s rules.
– We thank her for following our instructions. It was she herself who of her own volition chose to spend a night outside the Olympic village.
But on Monday evening, she hit back hard against the rumors that have characterized her life in recent days.
“I just want to make it clear that I have never been kicked out or banned from anything. I want to fight back against the false information that has been spread. I don’t want to let lies define me. But more than that, I don’t want to comment on it.”
Luana Alonso, 20, hits back at rumors on Instagram.
