Luan Leiva He is a 5-year-old Argentine boy who asked his parents to advance the process to change his gender in the document. The minor still does not speak very clearly, but his sexual identity has been defined since he was born.
“Lu is a trans male, and that is also part of his life. In fact, we say that it is not only him: we are a trans familybecause we all had to change the chip and transition with it, ”the boy’s father, Fernando Leiva, told Infobae.
The boy’s family reported that they were not informed on gender issues and that they did not know a trans person either. However, his child became -at 4 and a half years old- in the youngest minor in Argentina in having changed their gender and name on their birth certificate.

The boy began to define his gender from the age of 2. “Since we already had a daughter, we thought that what was expected was that she follow her, that she imitate her, but he was the complete opposite. I would put pigtails on her and tear them off, put a dress on her and do the same. When he began to speak more, he told me ‘put me clothes, not this’”, explained Luan’s mother, Natalia Melica.
In the games the boy began to assume masculine roles such as the father, the young man and the prince. When he began to say his first words, he defined himself as a “child” and if his parents corrected him, he would start crying.

Luan’s family went to a therapist to assess their son’s behavior and she guided them in the process of accompanying the child.
“I was affraid. I thought ‘he’s just in the garden, They are not going to invite him to a birthday anymore, they are going to put him aside’”the mother recalled. “I had other fears. Luan said ‘I’m a boy, I’m like dad’. And my fear was when she would start to wonder ‘why isn’t my body like my dad’s?‘, ‘Why don’t I have a penis?’, for example”, said the father.
Fernando and Natalia began by emptying the closet. They threw out Luan’s previous clothes and changed them into children’s clothes. They recognized that her son recognized himself as a gender other than the one assigned to him at birth.
The corrected birth certificate came when Luan was 4 1/2 years old. Her parents held a celebration to which they invited her classmates from the nursery. Next August Luan will be six years old.
