The company also intends to release an important area for the development of the city in the capital’s Naujamiestis district, LTG Link reported on Friday.

The company signed an agreement on the initiation of the territorial planning process with the Vilnius city municipality for the implementation of the project on Pramonės street.

“This will help to ensure even more efficient and environmentally friendly activities and more attractive working conditions, as well as a modern workplace for our employees who provide technical maintenance of the trains,” LTG Link manager Kristina Meidė said in a statement.

According to her, the renovated depot will be able to repair, maintain and prepare passenger rolling stock before the trip, and about 180 employees will be able to service 24 trains and 16 wagons at the same time.

The report states that the company “Skaitmeninis lapas” has already started designing the depot, which is located in the eastern part of the capital and has been operating for more than 40 years, and the renovated depot should start operating in 2028.

According to the company, the reconstructed depot will be adapted to the maintenance of electric passenger trains that are currently operating as well as those produced by the Swiss capital company “Stadler Polska”.

LTG Link reported in June 2023 from Stadler Polska for PLN 226.5 million. which will purchase 15 new electric and battery-powered trains and signed their purchase and sale agreement. The first train in Lithuania will be tested already next year.

According to LTG Link, when buying these trains, the company will also acquire train technical support services until 2037.
