LPGA: The most successful golfer in history, Kathy Whitworth passes away

Kathy Whitworth set a milestone in golf history that no one has caught up to, whether we’re talking about Sam Snead or Tiger Woods, Mickey Wright or Annika Sorenstam. His 88 career wins are unmatched on a professional golf circuit.

Whitworth, whose triumphs on the LPGA Tour spanned almost 25 years and was the first golfer to earn $1 million on the women’s professional tour, died Dec. long time. She was 83 years old.

Bettye Odle did not specify the cause of death, saying only that Whitworth passed away suddenly on Saturday evening while celebrating with family and friends.

Whitworth won the first of her 88 titles in July 1962. She won six Grand Slams during her career and broke Mickey Wright’s record of 82 victories by beating all her rivals at the Lady Michelob tournament in the summer of 1982.

His last victory was at the United Virginia Bank Classic in 1985.

However, Whitworth has never won the U.S. Open, the most prestigious major tournament on the women’s circuit.

Whitworth earned Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year awards in 1965 and 1967. She was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1982.

She was awarded the LPGA Player of the Year seven times in an eight-year span, between 1966 and 1973.
