Materialize and Proponent strengthen their 2021 collaboration by adding an EASA Part 21.J DOA partner to the partnership. That’s Stirling Dynamics. This means that they are allowed to develop, 3D print and distribute certified aircraft parts for the cabin.

Stirling Dynamics is an EASA 21.J certified Aerospace Design Organization. So it is certified to make design changes. Materialize is certified for the additive production of aircraft parts. By having the ability to identify and design AM applications through a certified DOA, with certified production by Materialize as a 21.G POA and then distribution through Proponent as the largest independent distributor, the three parties lower the barrier for OEMs and aircraft operators to Integrate 3D printing into their business operations. The American Proponent is the largest distributor of aircraft parts for the following market in the world. It ships approximately 54 million parts per year to more than 6,000 customers worldwide.

First products already developed

The three companies aim to increase the adoption of 3D printing in aircraft cabin parts production. The followingmarket in particular now has the opportunity to utilize the benefits of 3D printing. Stirling Dynamics and Materialise have already developed several aircraft cabin repair solutions that solve specific customer problems. Proponent can leverage their OEM relationships to develop OEM-approved and certified solutions, making them available to operators around the world facing similar issues.

Lowering barriers to AM adoption

“By combining our expertise, we create a powerful alliance with the skills needed to lower AM adoption barriers in the aerospace industry,” said Jurgen Laudus, Vice President of Materialize Manufacturing. The qualified solutions that the three develop can easily be incorporated into their followingmarket supply chain by Proponent OEM partners. “This partnership will allow OEMs to provide spare parts and repairs in an extremely cost-effective manner, ultimately benefiting airlines and MROs,” said Erik Krol, Proponent Vice President Strategic Business Units.

The three companies signed a letter of intent for the collaboration this week.
