Lower house: Goalkeepers in high demand on deadline day

Nothing works anymore! At 11:59 p.m. yesterday, Monday, the shutters went down in the lower house of football. From the regional leagues down to the 2nd division, the summer transfer window has been closed since today.

For one or two Upper Austrian clubs, things were still really stressful on deadline day: Vorwärts Steyr, promoted Oedt and Wallern completed the last new signings in the final transfer window. Steyr brought in Maximilian Fahler (20) from Bundesliga promoted GAK as an additional goalie – although they already have three goalkeepers in new signing Josef Gruber, Niklas Radner and Michael Fauland. The background: Fauland has an exit clause in the summer that also applies following the end of the lower house transfer window – and for professional clubs. The summer transfer period is open until September 5th. “We asked him to waive the clause and commit to us so that we have planning security. But he didn’t want to do that, and instead asked for more money. But I won’t let myself be blackmailed, so I still responded in this position,” says Steyr sports director Gerald Perzy.

Just like league rival Wallern: Three clubs were involved in the transfer of Patrick Moser: SV Ried gave the 21-year-old to Blau-Weiß Linz, while Linz loaned the goalkeeper to Trattnachtaler. With Erwin Softic, Linz gave another player (permanently) to their partner club.

Askö Oedt’s search for a new number one lasted until yesterday evening. They had actually already found an ex-professional, Filip Dmitrovic, for the position between the posts. But the former LASK goalkeeper broke his upper arm in the most recent friendly match once morest OÖ league team Edelweiss – which forced the Traun team to take action once more. A few more goalkeepers were tested during yesterday’s training session.

Brandner as king transfer

The best-known name was probably brought in by the Upper Austrian league team Mondsee: Michael Brandner, the captain of FC Blau-Weiß Linz, who had just been promoted, moved to the team from the Salzkammergut. There is certainty regarding young striker Simon Nussbaumer: the 19-year-old recently completed a trial training session at Sturm Graz, but he will stay in Mondsee.
