Lower gas and diesel prices, petrol prices unchanged

After several increases in gas and diesel prices in Lebanon, the prices of these two materials were down on Friday followingnoon, while the prices of gasoline at 95 and 98 octane were not changed, according to the pricing of the Department of Energy.

Thus, the gas cylinder costs 358,000 pounds, following a drop of 9,000 pounds. The 20 liters of diesel are them at 571,000 pounds, down from 14,000 pounds. The 20-litre can of 95-octane gasoline still costs 474,000 pounds, and the 98-octane 484,000 pounds.

This week, fuel prices have changed almost daily, in a volatile local and international climate, notably due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the economic crisis in Lebanon. Spokesman for petrol station owners Georges Brax explained the stability of petrol prices by the fact that the dollar exchange rate on the Sayrafa platform remained unchanged at 22,600 pounds yesterday. The Sayrafa rate is the one adopted to insure 100% of the cost of fuel imports, following the mechanism established by the Banque du Liban.
