Testachats had hoped for the abolition of application fees for mortgage loans, but the reduction is a step in the right direction, the consumer protection organization said on Thursday. Earlier in the day, the Minister of the Economy, Pierre-Yves Dermagne, announced that the ceiling for application fees for a mortgage loan will increase from 500 euros to 350 euros.
The organization has long advocated for such removal. Other forms of credit, such as consumer credit, don’t require a one-time fee, she says.
“A bank earns much less on a consumer loan. Interest is often less than 1,000 euros, while a bank quickly earns 100,000 euros in interest on a mortgage loan, in addition to the sale of ancillary products such as insurance, “she argues.
