First extrapolation of overnight stays in January shows continuation of the upward trend
St. Polten (OTS) – The new year begins as the old one ended:
With an increase of 41 percent in overnight stays compared to January of the previous year, tourism development continues to improve. Tourism Provincial Councilor Jochen Danninger and Michael Showerer, Managing Director of Lower Austria archyde news, are confident that this development will continue in the coming months and that the pre-crisis level will now be reached quickly. Among other things, an extensive communication campaign on the subject of cycling is planned. The focus here is on Germany, Lower Austria’s most important local market for guests from abroad.
According to the first projection, Lower Austria’s hosts recorded a total of 403,900 overnight stays in January. This is only 6.2 percent below the pre-crisis level in January 2019. Tourism Provincial Councilor Jochen Danninger is pleased and emphasizes: “The overnight stay curve in Lower Austria continues to go up significantly. Skiing, cross-country skiing, tobogganing, snowshoeing or rather a trip through Lower Austria’s cities – all of this makes winter in Lower Austria so special. The efforts of our hosts pay off, because our guests from home and abroad are happy to come back to us. In January, 277,800 overnight stays by guests (+27.2 percent) came from Austria, 126,100 overnight stays by guests (+86 percent) from abroad, above all from our most important local markets of Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. A special focus this year was on the topic of cycling, this year’s topic of Lower Austria . Lower Austria has the perfect conditions to position itself as the number 1 cycling tourism destination in the heart of Europe. This year we want to work more on the German market, which has a special connection to cycle tourism in Lower Austria.”
Michael Showerer, Managing Director of Lower Austria archyde news, adds: “Lower Austria’s guests can look forward to many offers this year. To name just a few examples: New, finely curated trips through all corners of Lower Austria, the continuation of the popular series of events ‘Culture among winegrowers’ and the ‘Lower Austria Garden Summer’. Cycling in Lower Austria is a particularly strong focus of our application this year. With the high density of cultural festivals, we made a name for ourselves as the Festival State of Lower Austria last year. They are the ideal occasion for a short break in Lower Austria, both in urban and rural areas.”
