In 2015, Thomas Salzer was elected IV-NÖ President. After two terms of office, re-election is no longer possible for statutory reasons; he hands over to a successor.

Vienna/ St. Pölten (OTS) On Tuesday, November 21, 2023, a new president will be elected at the Ordinary General Assembly of the Lower Austrian Industrial Association (IV NÖ) in the House of Digitalization. This marks the end of an era in which Thomas Salzer as IV-NÖ President and the country’s highest industrial representative has successfully represented the concerns of local companies for eight years and pushed forward important developments for the location.

From education to crisis management

Educational projects such as “Teach for Austria” improved opportunities for disadvantaged young people. New courses such as “Applied Chemistry” or “42 Vienna” promoted practical training. Location agreements and industrial measures generally strengthened Lower Austria as an industrial location. The IV NÖ initiated effective steps once morest the shortage of skilled workers, including the creation of 3,000 training positions in the MINT sector and the regionalization of the list of shortage occupations. With the increase in funding for child care announced by the state of Lower Austria in 2022, a long-standing demand from IV NÖ and Junge Industrie NÖ was implemented.

“The most important thing in these eight years was that we had a good relationship of trust with the state and the state government and were able to work together on the further development of the industrial location. Today, there is no one in politics or in the population who says: ‘Without industry “We would have the same quality of life and the same prosperity in Lower Austria,” says Salzer, taking stock of the past eight years.

“We have successfully managed to involve industry in various projects, including those that were not originally intended for industry. One example is the digitalization initiative. This was originally designed for small companies, but was then expanded to include large companies “, he continues.

Industry in transition

The past eight years have also been marked by a changing industry: digitalization and automation have become widespread across companies. As a result, companies have managed to further increase productivity. This made it possible for employees to be paid good wages. But the past few years in particular have been characterized by ongoing crises – the corona pandemic, energy prices, supply chain problems, inflation, labor shortages. Solutions often had to be found quickly to keep companies on track and secure jobs.

IV NÖ with thanks and recognition

IV-NÖ managing director Michaela Roither praises Salzer’s commitment to the industry: “The eight years at the helm of the Lower Austrian Industrial Association were more than challenging, the last four years in particular were characterized by crises that were difficult to predict. But it was also a time of change, creativity and troubleshooting. Thomas Salzer has always represented the interests of our members with courage, passion and determination. We are sincerely grateful for his tireless commitment.”

Industry in Lower Austria is now facing a changing era: artificial intelligence, mobility of the future, new ways of supplying energy are some of the major topics of the future. “The IV NÖ team and the new president will tackle the upcoming challenges with motivation and a spirit of innovation. Together we will continue to vigorously represent the interests of Lower Austrian industrial companies,” concludes IV-NÖ managing director Roither.
