LH Mikl-Leitner: International Day of Art is an occasion to bring the multitude of exhibition halls and museums in front of the curtain in the art and culture region of Lower Austria
St. Polten (OTS/NLK) – World Art Day is an international celebration of the visual arts on Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday, proclaimed by the International Association of Art (IAA). In Lower Austria there are numerous fine art institutions, large and renowned museums and exhibition halls as well as small galleries and a carefully developed selection of art in public space.
Provincial Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner: “For us in Lower Austria, art and culture are sources of strength and inspiration, which give support and confidence, especially in uncertain times. That’s why we appreciate and support art and culture in all corners of Lower Austria. Where the most varied and beautiful theater stages in the country are at home, just as festivals and open-air stages can be found in the most beautiful places in the country. From Grafenegg via Semmering to Reichenau an der Rax, where first-class cultural performances delight the public. Our museums and galleries in Lower Austria are equally impressive: with exhibition halls whose appeal reaches far beyond the national borders. From the State Gallery to the Caricature Museum in Krems and the Museum Gugging. That’s why we want to focus on art and the diverse cultural offerings in our country, especially on World Day.”
An institution of world renown that should not be missing on World Art Day is the Kunstmeile Krems with its various museums. There, among other things, the newly opened exhibition Dream Catcher by Angela Glajcar in the State Gallery of Lower Austria attracts visitors as a poetic, walk-in work of art. For the light-flooded exhibition space on the ground floor, the artist has created a fascinating monumental walk-in work of art in which she combines wafer-thin paper with delicate glass fabric. In addition, the audience hit “Alpine Seilschaften. Mountain sports around 1900″.
Right next door in the Caricature Museum Krems, the only museum for satirical art of this kind in the world, a great artist of poetry is currently being shown in addition to a caricature exhibition of the Sokol prize winners: “Erwin Moser. Fantastic stories.” Not only children’s hearts beat faster at the sight of Erwin Moser’s enchantingly illustrated books. The special warmth of Moser’s children’s books has accompanied us for decades. The illustrator Erwin Moser is shown with a very personal selection of his best original works. The extensive supporting program for the show is also highly recommended.
A few kilometers down the Danube in Hadersdorf am Kamp, the Spoerri exhibition center has recently reopened its doors. The current exhibition “A Red Thread. Textile Paths in Art” shows more than 18 contemporary artists who, in their works with traditional crafts such as sewing, crocheting, embroidery or knitting, provide interesting and pointed statements.
A detour to the Kamptal is also worthwhile to see Wolfgang Denk’s exhibition “New Paintings from the Homelands 2019-2023” in the Alte Schmiede in Schönberg. The exhibition opened on April 14 IN MEMORIAM Wolfgang Denk. The great artist died surprisingly recently on Good Friday. Wolfgang Denk has lived and worked as an artist in Zöbing since 1995. New painting and abstraction were one of the consequences of his new artistic self-discovery in the last phase of his life.
The Gugging Museum in the Vienna Woods is an intensive examination of fine arts in a truly inspiring ambience. Under the new artistic direction of Nina Ansperger, the museum is currently showing a special exhibition “gugging inspires.! from bowie to red.” Gugging has been a magical place for artists since the 1960s. This also served as a source of inspiration for David Bowie, who visited the Gugging artists and took the mood of the visit to the studio with him. The Austrian writer Gerhard Roth immortalized the Gugging artists in both his literary and photographic work. In addition to Bowie and Roth, Arnulf Rainer, Peter Pongratz, Johann Rausch, and the photographer Christine de Grancy, who accompanied Bowie in Gugging, are also represented in the exhibition.
With the Arnulf Rainer Museum, the wonderful spa town of Baden has long been firmly anchored on the map of fine arts. The new exhibition “Duette Duelle” can be seen on World Art Day. It shows various facets of artistic dialogue and joint creation – a theme that is very important to Arnulf Rainer’s work, despite Arnulf Rainer’s self-stylization as a manic loner.
