Dr. Hossam Mowafi, Professor of Critical Cases at the Faculty of Medicine, Kasr Al-Ainy, revealed a problem that most people suffer from following eating breakfast or suhoor in the holy month of Ramadan.

Mowafi said during the program “My Lord, Increase Me in Knowledge”, broadcast on Sada Al-Balad channel, that low blood sugar is one of the most common problems following eating in Ramadan.

The professor of critical care medicine added that the reason for low blood sugar immediately following eating is due to a defect in the pancreas, which causes the beta cells present in it to produce large amounts of the hormone insulin.

He explained that benign pancreatic tumors are among the reasons that may stimulate beta cells to secrete the hormone insulin in a way that exceeds the normal rate following eating.

Muwafi pointed to the ease of diagnosing benign pancreatic tumors, stressing that endoscopic ultrasound is one of the tests that helps to detect them accurately.
In conclusion, he stressed that the endoscope used in this examination also gives the doctor the opportunity to take a sample of the pancreatic tumor, to determine its type through laboratory analysis.
