Low Incidence Rate and COVID-19 Updates in Pyrénées-Atlantiques: Stay Informed

Low incidence rate

First of all, a quick reminder of the situation thanks to data from Public Health France. 15.32: this is the incidence rate of the coronavirus, for the week of October 16 to 22, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Between the summer period and the start of the school year, the latter oscillated between 15 and 20, far from the worst levels of the health crisis, three years ago now. As for the positivity rate, still between October 16 and 22, it stood at 15.27%. Proof that although the virus keeps a low profile, it nevertheless remains very contagious.

“However, over the past two weeks, we have seen that the strength of the virus is decreasing. While, paradoxically, the temperatures are cooling! » underlines Steven Cens, president of the Biopyrénées laboratory, adding that with the weather, the situation might change.

Concerning the variant, the currently dominant one is called Eris. But it is, in fact, only a descendant of Omicron. “Like the latter, Eris is very contaminating, but much less aggressive for organisms.” Enough to stay, in terms of vaccination, with the usual recommendations: fragile people and over 80 years old.

The flu “hasn’t started”

As for the flu, Dr. Cens slips: “It hasn’t started yet! Here too, the weather plays its role. To do so with the drop in temperatures to come. On the other hand, we have a lot of bronchiolitis, especially among children.”

Note that, following a decree and two orders published on August 9 and which broaden the vaccination skills of pharmacists/biological doctors/nurses working in medical biology laboratories, Biopyrénées should position itself to be able, too, to vaccinate the population .
