Line performance iPhone 15 Right following its release it has been a real rollercoaster. After a relatively good start, with models like the iPhone 15 Pro Max attracting a lot of attention, news regarding a low demand of smartphones began to intensify, especially in China.
Now, according to information from Archyde.com, just weeks following the launch of the new iPhones, several retailers in the Asian powerhouse are selling the devices for prices well below their respective official prices. Among the stores offering generous discounts are names like JD.com, Pinduoduo e Taobao (do Alibaba).
To give you an idea of the size of the discounts, the entry-level iPhone 15, for example, can be found in China for up to 1,501 yuan — regarding $205.14 below its original price. The most expensive version of the model, with 512GB of storage, already has prices in the mid-range 7,498 yuan (compared to the original 9,000 yuan), while the 128GB iPhone 15 Plus costs 6,098 yuaninstead of the original 7,000 yuan.
It is not just the entry-level models, however, that are being sold for considerably lower prices. The 512GB iPhone 15 Pro Max, for example, was also noticed on Taobao for no less than 10,698 yuan (originally 12,000 yuan).
When asked regarding the discounts, both Apple, Pinduoduo and Taobao have not yet commented. JD.com, on the other hand, said they are part of a strategy launched by the company this year to offer newly launched devices at lower prices.
The expectation was that these retailers would offer these discounts on 11/11, also known in China as Singles’ Day. The anticipation of these offers, therefore, is a good indication of low demand.
Data from Counterpoint Research released last week shows that sales of the iPhone 15 line are 4.5% lower compared to last year’s models — which weren’t the best either, it’s worth mentioning. Among the reasons for this decline is the slowdown in the Chinese economy and competition from local companies, with special emphasis on Huawei.
