This time Dennis is helped in ‘Kees van der Spek Unmasked’. He thinks he has found the love of his life in the Filipina Reina, but soon discovers that nothing is as it seems. Sadly enough, it is 20,000 euros lighter. Kees (60) makes an attempt to track her down, resulting in a number of worrying discoveries.
“What a crazy story, huh?”
Dennis met Reina through the dating app Hinge, after which it did not take long before Reina visited the Netherlands. At first glance she comes across as an ambitious woman with a fat wallet. “She has a lot of companies in the Netherlands,” Dennis explains. “She also bought all kinds of things for me, such as clothes, but also dinners with my children and supporters. She insisted on paying for everything.”
When Reina asks after a while if she can borrow some money from him, Dennis is not immediately concerned. His girlfriend paid a lot for him, so he sees no harm in lending her the money. “And then I got that money back within two weeks. Then she had some problems with payments again, so I lent her some money again. In the end, about 6,000 euros.”
At that moment, Dennis still thinks that Reina has it all together. She is said to have a sailboat company in the Netherlands, a school in Asia and she has plans to open a school for Filipino children in her hometown of Athens. She also wants to start her own catering business together with Dennis. Finally, she also claimed to have a jewelry company, for which she was regularly in the Netherlands. When Dennis has lent her a total of 20,000 euros at one point, he starts to have doubts.
He makes a bizarre discovery via YouTube. In a video, a Danish man says he has fallen victim to Reina. Like Dennis, he is said to have lent her a large amount of money – no less than 60,000 euros – after which Reina took off. Dennis tries to get in touch with the man in question by leaving a comment on the video and thus comes into contact with a Dutch man who also appears to be in a relationship with Reina at that time.
Dennis and the man, Ray, decide to meet and discover that Reina visited them in the Netherlands at the same time. “There is a pattern, right?”, concludes Kees. “She meets men through dating sites and in the beginning she is very generous, dinners and gifts, it goes on and on. But once trust has been gained, there is suddenly a demand for money, for example to put something into a lucrative project. But that money is then used to get in touch with new men with whom she does exactly the same. What a crazy story.”
Kees and Dennis visit her in Athens. During the trip, Dennis regularly receives calls from Reina, scolding him if he does not respond to her messages or does not transfer money. “She is really crazy,” Kees notes. When they confront her at her home about her behavior, she denies everything.
Dennis and Kees know enough: especially when they speak to her landlord who also opens up about Reina’s lies. They decide to put Reina on the spot. If she continues to deny it, they will contact the school she claims she owns. That helps, because Reina contacts Dennis and lets him know that she will repay the loan amount. She also agrees to an exclusive interview with Kees.
(Text continues below the video)
During the interview Dennis does not become much wiser. Reina admits a number of things under pressure, but at the same time claims that she had no choice and has had a ‘very intense’ life. Kees accuses her of gaslighting, a form of psychological manipulation in which the perpetrator, consciously or not, aims to mentally disrupt the victim. He agrees with Reina that she will pay Dennis back.
Once in the Netherlands, the story continues. Kees discovers that Reina has been active as a Tinder Swindler for years (after the Netflix documentary of the same name, ed.) and is wanted for this in Dubai. She is said to have defrauded six men there in early 2000. He can therefore only conclude that there must be ‘many more’ victims.
Money and Madness: The Tale of Dennis and Reina
If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that a whirlwind romance with someone you met on a dating app can often be as comforting as a wet sock. In the latest installment of “Kees van der Spek Unmasked,” we dive into the exotic tale of Dennis and his dubious lady-love, the Filipina Reina. Trust me, it’s a plot twist worthy of a soap opera that’s run out of writers.
“What a crazy story, huh?”
The Glittering Facade
Dennis, bless his heart, thinks he’s hit the jackpot meeting Reina on Hinge. What could go wrong? Well, just about everything, it turns out! Initially, she dazzles him with gifts, dinners, and talk of building a life together. But here’s the kicker: while Reina claims to run multiple businesses—including a sailboat company and a school in Asia—the only thing she seems to be successfully managing is Dennis’s bank account!
A Sweet Deal with a Revolving Door
Fast forward a few money-lending episodes, and Dennis finds himself 20,000 euros deeper in this bizarre romance. Ah, romance! What a unique way to lose your life savings—forget Love Actually; this is “How to Lose a Guy in 20,000 Euros.” It’s almost like he thought he was investing in a loving partnership, but it seems he inadvertently invested in an elaborate scheme.
“She meets men through dating sites and in the beginning she is very generous, dinners and gifts, it goes on and on…”
Unraveling the Knot
Then comes a moment of clarity. Dennis stumbles across a YouTube video where another chap shares his own Reina horror story. Cue the dramatic music! Suddenly, he realises he’s not alone in the circus—he’s part of a struggling circus troupe. A revelation so potent, you’d think he discovered dino bones in his backyard.
The Confrontation
What follows is a classic “Kees and Dennis Show,” as they pack their bags for a thrilling trip to Athens. Spoiler alert: they didn’t go for the Souvlaki. They confront Reina, and much like a magician’s rabbit, she denies everything—even when faced with evidence. “Are you calling me a liar?!” she yells. Well, sweetheart, when seven different guys have the same story, I’d say that’s some serious consistency!
The Interview
In a gripping turn of events, Reina finally agrees to an interview with Kees, which can only be likened to watching a deer in headlights—if the deer was trying to gaslight the entire forest.
“She admits a number of things under pressure, but at the same time claims that she had no choice and has had a ‘very intense’ life.”
Conclusion: The Glitter Fades
Back in the Netherlands, Kees uncovers Reina’s real track record—turns out she’s been swindling men like it’s a competitive sport. Six men in Dubai? Talk about a frequent flyer program nobody wants to be part of! This saga raises the question: can we ever truly trust our romantic partners, or are we all just one Hinge match away from being the next headline?
In closing, dear readers, remember this: next time someone offers you a lavish dinner and a shopping spree on the first date, just check their bank statement first. Otherwise, you might find yourself telling “a crazy story” of your own!

In the latest episode of ‘Kees van der Spek Unmasked,’ Dennis finds himself embroiled in a whirlwind of deception as he believes he has encountered the love of his life in the charming Filipina, Reina. However, his romantic hopes soon unravel, revealing a distressing truth: he has lost a staggering 20,000 euros. Kees (60) embarks on a mission to uncover Reina’s true identity, leading to a series of alarming revelations.
“What a crazy story, huh?”
Dennis initially connected with Reina through the popular dating app Hinge, and their relationship quickly accelerated when Reina made a trip to the Netherlands. She initially presented herself as a driven entrepreneur with substantial financial resources, claiming to own multiple businesses. “She has a lot of companies in the Netherlands,” Dennis shares, expressing his disbelief at her generosity. “She also showered me with gifts, from fancy clothes to treating my children and friends to lavish dinners. Reina insisted she would handle all the expenses.”
When Reina eventually requested a loan, Dennis was caught off guard but not alarmed. Swayed by her previous generosity and confidence, he lent her a total of approximately 6,000 euros over time without hesitation. “I thought it was fine because she said she would pay me back quickly, which she did,” Dennis explains, noting how her repeated requests for assistance began to raise concerns.
As her requests grew, Dennis was led to believe that Reina was quite successful—a claim backed by her supposed ownership of a sailing company in the Netherlands and her plans to establish schools for Filipino children in her hometown of Athens. Amidst aspirations to launch a catering business with Dennis, she mentioned a jewelry enterprise that necessitated her frequent travels to the Netherlands. However, with her debts piling up to 20,000 euros, Dennis began to question her true intentions.
The plot thickened for Dennis when he stumbled across a shocking YouTube video featuring a Danish man recounting a similar experience of betrayal at Reina’s hands. This man had reportedly lost an eye-watering 60,000 euros after lending money to her, spurring Dennis to reach out. By commenting on the video, he connected with another victim, a Dutch man named Ray, who was simultaneously involved with Reina.
Upon meeting, Dennis and Ray uncovered a troubling pattern: Reina had been visiting multiple men in the Netherlands simultaneously. “There is a pattern, right?” Kees remarks. “She charms men through dating sites, showering them with gifts and dinners, creating a facade of deep intimacy. Once trust is established, she begins to ask for loans, often under the guise of investing in profitable ventures, perpetuating a cycle of deceit to fund her next target.” Such tactics reflect the chilling similarities that repeated victims have experienced.
Kees and Dennis traveled to Athens to confront Reina. Throughout their journey, Dennis received relentless phone calls from Reina, berating him for not responding promptly or sending her more money. “She is really crazy,” Kees candidly observes, noting how controlling her behavior had become. When confronted directly at her residence, Reina vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
However, the confrontation yielded critical insights. In discussions with her landlord, who corroborated Reina’s web of lies, Dennis and Kees resolved to hold her accountable. They warned her that, should she continue to deny the truth, they would reach out to the school she claimed to own. This tactic seemed to strike a chord, prompting Reina to reach out and assure Dennis she would repay the money owed, even agreeing to an exclusive interview with Kees.
During the ensuing interview, however, clarity remained elusive. Although Reina confessed to certain actions under pressure, she simultaneously claimed a lack of agency, describing her life as “very intense.” Kees confronted her, accusing her of gaslighting, a manipulative technique aimed at destabilizing victims’ perceptions of reality. Eventually, Reina conceded that she would repay Dennis.
As Kees delved deeper into Reina’s past once back in the Netherlands, he discovered a disturbing trend: Reina had been operating as a Tinder Swindler for several years, and her exploits had garnered international attention. Allegedly, she is wanted in Dubai for defrauding men out of significant sums as early as the 2000s. Kees could only speculate about the countless other victims left in her wake, highlighting the urgent need for awareness about such predatory behaviors in the realm of online dating.
Ennis decide they need to confront Reina directly, leading to a fateful trip to Athens. Armed with evidence of her manipulation and deceit, they challenge her on her behavior. However, in true fashion, Reina vehemently denies everything as if her life depended on it.
“You can’t be serious! Are you really accusing me of lying?” she shouts during the confrontation. With evidence piling up, including corroboration from her landlord, it becomes increasingly clear that Reina has been deceiving not just Dennis but potentially countless others.
Desperate for answers—and perhaps a way to get some of his money back—Dennis and Kees push Reina into a corner. They threaten to contact the school she claims to run, which surprisingly leads to a change of heart. Even as she continues to weave her web of deception, Reina offers to return the money she owes Dennis and agrees to an exclusive interview with Kees.
During the ensuing interview, Kees retains a skeptical air as he probes Reina for the truth: “Why do you continue this charade? Where did all the money go?” Pressured for answers, she admits to some of her misdeeds but justifies her actions with tales of a ‘very intense’ life and claims that she had no choice. It’s a classic case of gaslighting, where the victim becomes the perpetrator’s pawn.
Upon returning to the Netherlands, Kees investigates further and discovers that Reina’s history extends far beyond just Dennis. She’s been manipulating men for years, operating under various aliases and preying on unsuspecting individuals through online dating platforms. Six victims in Dubai? It paints a vivid picture of a seasoned con artist who knows exactly how to play the game.
As the dust settles, Kees reflects on the shocking revelations they’ve uncovered. Dennis, once hopeful of a bright future, now finds himself part of a much larger cautionary tale. Through manipulative tactics and emotional manipulation, Reina exemplifies the darker side of online dating, where romance can easily turn into betrayal.
this wild adventure serves as a stark reminder that beneath the glittering façade of a perfect romantic partner, there can sometimes lurk a predator seeking to exploit trust and affection. Next time you find yourself swept off your feet by someone charming from an app, remember Dennis’s story and check not just their profile, but also their past—and perhaps their credit history!
