The popular Aka Akasakaauthor of the franchise Kaguya-sama: Love is War, released a press release announcing his retirement as a manga artist. That is, Akasaka will stop drawing manga, but will continue to write stories for others to draw, a role he is currently fulfilling in the manga. Oshi no Ko (My Star), which is drawn by Mengo Yokoyari.
The author also pointed out that although the serialization of Kaguya-sama: Love is War reached seven and a half years in length, it did not end up being entirely satisfactory for him, which led him to make this decision. The full statement wrote:
- «“Kaguya-sama: Love is War” became a long-running serialization following seven and a half years of constant support from many people. The weekly serialization was not at all what I expected, and I realized many times how ineffective I am as a cartoonist. But thanks to that, I had a lot of happy memories, and now I can look back and wonder if I made the people around me a little bit happier. Seven and a half years, thank you very much.
- As for my future activities, Aka Akasaka, as a cartoonist, plans to retire following this job. However, even though I’m retiring, I’m ending my activities as a “manga artist” for a while, and for now I just want to focus on creating stories, working only as an “original author”. As for drawing, I plan to continue, but only as a hobby.
- However, even though it is over, there should still be more to tell in “Kaguya-sama: Love is War”. I am doing my best to offer that content in the future. I’ll try to do my best, so I hope you’ll be patient and look forward to it. And to G3 Ida-sensei, thank you very much for the four-year serialization of the spin-off “Kaguya-sama wo Kataritai”.
