“I saw my first show at 14 on the Plains. It was Atreyu and Linkin Park with my cousin. I knew I was going to do the FEQ one day, but I didn’t think I would start on the Plains, ”he said, after the title Mew.

When he got up this morning, LOVA was far from able to imagine what was to happen to him.

Following the cancellation of the American Lil Durk, for alleged health problems, the FEQ was obliged, at the last minute, to rearrange the line-up of its big hip-hop evening on the Plains. . We contacted LOVA, an artist from Quebec, to offer him to launch the whole thing at 7 p.m.

At 1 p.m., his DJ, who was in Montreal, rushed into his car to set off for Quebec.

Rising star of Quebec hip-hop, LOVA drew on her four EPs for a whirlwind and dynamic performance of around thirty minutes. Accompanied by guitarist-keyboardist Pierre-Olivier Couture and a DJ, LOVA received a warm welcome from an audience that was few at the time.

“We wondered if we were going to do the FEQ this year, but we thought it would be better to wait and do a bigger stage“said the rapper from Quebec. It’s now done.

LOVA celebrated this moment by doing some crowdsurfing as he had done in the past on the Plains. The musicians left and we heard them laughing, into the microphones, when they left the stage.

In indifference

It was a little indifferent, then, that Montreal-Ethiopian Naya Ali, accompanied by a guitarist, a drummer and two dancers, delivered her performance.

Too bad, because she has a lot of confidence. It offers hip-hop with good beats and beautiful musical textures.

Naya Ali made a superb entrance with The Heist and effects ofautotune in his voice. It was going back to the station, but for some reason that is difficult to understand, she had a lot of trouble getting hip-hop fans to react. Maybe people are not familiar with his material.

She succeeded, at the very end of her performance, after the titles Air Ali et More Life, Less Nameswhen she approached the public during Str8 Upeven taking a few steps near the spectators.

The bad news

Canadian rapper Bbno$ hit the stage early, introduced by his DJ, who spun snippets of YMCAof Barbie Girl and of Gangnam Style.

After a few short songs, at a time when it felt like a lift, with people jumping in unison in front of the stage, Bbno$ indicated that a storm was coming and that he had to leave the stage. The site was evacuated and thunderstorms started thirty minutes later.

Security people escorted the rapper backstage. A situation that put an end to a very strange day. A very good one for LOVA and a less good one for hip-hop fans, who, let’s face it, weren’t very numerous on the Plains. The smallest crowd since the start of the Summer Festival.
