The Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, indicated, Thursday in Larache, that the development work on the first phase of the Loukkos Agropole is reaching completion. END.

“The development work on the first phase of the Loukkos Agropole will soon be completed, including infrastructure, equipment and sales,” said Sadiki, in a statement to the press, during his visit to several agricultural development projects in the province of Larache.

This visit was an opportunity to focus on the progress of the construction work of the qualipole, which will bring together all the services relating to the quality and control of agricultural products and whose work should be completed in March, a- he continued, adding that this structuring project in terms of the agricultural production chain, aims to bring together professionals and producers of different services linked to quality and will make it possible to give real added value to products, while encouraging the creation of ‘job.

And to add that the qualipole, considered as a model of convergence between the ministry, the region of Tangier-Tetouan Al-Hoceima and other partners involved in the financing of the project, should include the institutions and authorities responsible for health security , agronomic research, quality control and export coordination, in order to bring the ministry closer to professionals and producers.

With a total cost of 97.8 million dirhams, the qualipole covers an area of ​​2 hectares within the Loukkos Agropole and will provide a wide range of local services to agri-food companies, including the issuance of certificates. export, laboratory analyses, as well as specialized advice in the agricultural field.

Furthermore, Sadiki visited a potato farm with an area of ​​5.18 Ha as well as a cold storage warehouse for potatoes with a capacity of 7,000 T, at the Laouamra territorial commune in the Province of Larache, as part of monitoring potato production.

Vegetable crops occupy an important place in the crop rotation practiced in the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima Region, with an area of ​​58,880 ha, including 14,200 ha dedicated to potato cultivation, or 24% of the overall area cultivated in market gardening and 60% of the area is carried out at the Loukkos perimeter.

The Loukkos area has significant potential in terms of irrigated agricultural land with an area exceeding 45,000 Ha, in addition to significant water resources and modern hydro-agricultural equipment.

It is also characterized by climatic conditions favorable to the development of different crops, notably market gardening, red fruits, fodder crops and fruit trees.

The Loukkos perimeter is also distinguished by the diversity of market gardening crops, in this case, the cultivation of potatoes which occupies an important part of the annual crop program. The annual areas dedicated to potatoes are around 9,000 ha, divided into two seasons.

Regarding the current campaign, an increase was recorded in terms of area sown with late-season potatoes of + 12% compared to the previous campaign and an increase in the average yield of more than 25% (30 tonne/ha).
