From redefining jazz with his revolutionary trumpet playing to inventing folk singing, Louis Armstrong influenced American popular music more than any other artist.

In July 1968, Armstrong and his famous band “All Stars” traveled to the UK and entered the BBC Studios in London to record a dynamic and joyful performance, showcasing his outstanding singing and playing skills. Now, this legendary session has been brought to light in album form.

Recorded in high-fidelity audio and video, “Louis In London” features Armstrong performing everything from his first public performance of WC Handy’s “Ole Miss” to his hit “What A Wonderful World” ” and classic covers of hits like “Mack The Knife” Hello, Dolly!

The show first aired as BBC One’s Show of the Week on September 22, 1968, and proved to be Armstrong’s last major performance. From the moment he received the 1968 London record, he was determined to get the music heard by the world, taping a note to the outside of the cassette that read: “Dedicated to the fans.”

Armstrong sent copies of the BBC concerts to his friends and played them when he had visitors. Although he might have chosen any number of famous recordings, including his iconic collaboration with Ella Fitzgerald, he returned to the BBC sessions once more and once more. Now, more than fifty years following his death, “Louis of London” will finally be officially shared with the world.

“Knowing how much he wanted his friends and fans to hear this music while he was still alive – Ricky Riccardi writes in the album’s exclusive liner notes – knowing that it will now be appreciated by a new generation , which was a great source of pride, including many fans who were no longer alive when he died, but who were still inspired by his music and joy. Armstrong once claimed that he was here “for happiness.” .

Decades later, albums like “Louis in London” continue his life’s mission, and we still need to be reminded that maybe this is still a good world, maybe “us.” After all, I will never walk alone.
