Lotte Kopecky won following holding off van Vleuten before getting ahead of her.
At the end of a breathtaking final, Lotte Kopecky dominated the best runner in the world, Annemiek van Vleuten, depriving the Dutchwoman of a third success at the Strade. Kopecky is the first Belgian to put her name on the winners’ list of the event.
“I can’t believe it, it’s the best victory of my career”, she confessed shortly following her success in the Piazza del Campo. Her time this winter in the SD-Worx team, the “Quick Step” of women’s cycling, has clearly transformed the young woman, 26 years old. Kopecky, certainly the strongest this Saturday with van Vleuten, thus took advantage of the numerical supremacy of her new formation.
