the essential
The Albas festivals are making a comeback this year from August 5 to 8, following a two-year absence. On the program: concerts, aperitifs… Festivities eagerly awaited in the city.
After two years of absence, the Albas festivities will once once more get the town moving from August 5th to 8th. A long-awaited return: “we are impatient”, admits the president of the festival committee, Benjamin Llorca. This year, an eclectic program awaits festival-goers. “We program punk, rock, electro and even hip-hop. We know that people come to listen to their style of music. We are targeting the youngest and the not so young,” he says.
A busy program
Friday, August 5, it’s an evening of concerts that opens the mini-festival. Grayssoker, Melan and Lofofora. “The first will bring young people, and the other is a very well-known name in the rock metal scene”, indicates the president of the festival committee. The evening begins at 10 p.m. and ends at 2:30 a.m. An hour and a half earlier than the other editions, following a prefectural stop.
On Saturday, there’s a big meal (20 euros) hosted by the Étincelle orchestra. Sunday is a “happy hour for everyone” indicates the organizer. Indeed, a free aperitif with concert will take place at noon. After the meal, the festival committee as well as the youth of Albas will go around the city for the collection and give flowers to the inhabitants. In the evening, it is once more an evening full of concerts. Sidi Watcho, Rodeo Joe and The Chirping Crickets. But also Señor Zazou: “it’s a group that is starting to be recognized”, believes Benjamin Llorca. These are seven Colombians who will accompany Aurélien Calvo, a singer from Lot.
“We are going to be very tired”
To end this weekend of madness in style, Olympics are organized. “We hope to make 5 or 6 teams”, relates the president of the festival committee. Next year, he intends to go further: with water games organized on the beach, in agreement with the fire brigade. All of this ends with a tapas evening accompanied by Los Patos, a group from Lot who only performs once this year. Then a concert by the Canyon orchestra, the second time the Narbonnais group has played in the department.
“After these four days of celebration, we will be very tired. At night, we sleep two hours, then we chain coffees during the day”, smiles Benjamin Llorca. But for nothing in the world, it would shorten the time of the festivities. He is also considering going from one to two days for the Limau festival, which was organized on July 13, still in Albas. “I had never seen so many festival-goers!” he smiles. A finding that raises hopes for August. Benjamin Llorca hopes to welcome 1,000 festival-goers at the best of the weekend.
