the essentials The week of mobilization continues for farmers in the Lot. This Thursday evening, they gathered in front of the State and Regional services to wall up the entrances and dump manure.

Punch operation this Thursday evening in Cahors. Nearly 100 farmers and 30 tractors gathered on the Cavaignac quay, closed to traffic, from 6:30 p.m. Their target: the DDT (the departmental management of the territory), the regional office and then the prefecture at Place Chapou. Their complaints: the delay in payment of CAP aid, the delay also in installation aid from the Region and too many controls on farms and administrative constraints. “I have to spend two and a half days per week on paperwork. It’s unmanageable. Not to mention the never-ending checks, we are monitored by satellites,” denounces Julien, a breeder in Rocamadour.

Another farmer from Labastide-Marnhac is annoyed at having to pay 350 euros in interest per month because the subsidy from the Region has not been paid to him since May. “300 files have not been processed and we have no visibility on the deadline,” despairs Stéphane Pons, president of the FDSEA in the Lot. In the megaphone and on the tractor, Julien Vielcazal, the president of the JA du Lot warns: “They are incapable of accomplishing their mission, at the DDT and at the Region. So, as we do not need them, we’re going to close the gate, wall up the entrance.”

Including action: faced with a cordon of police, the farmers comply, bags of mortar and rubble stones to support them. Tense face to face with the police who end up evacuating the entrance gate. The wall was erected following several minutes in front of the main entrance to the DDT. Then, bins of manure are dumped in front of another entrance and tires placed in front of the building, rue des Hortes. In front of the Regional House, history repeats itself. At 8:30 p.m., a delegation of farmers was received at the prefecture.
