Maya, a young cat belonging to Marco, a truck driver from the North, got into the wrong truck during his owner’s stopover in Saint-Jean-de-Védas, near Montpellier, at the end of January. Found in Loire-Atlantique, the animal has finally returned home.
Maya, a Maine Coon cat a few months old, was lost by Marco, her 60-year-old owner, who took her on his truck trips. “It’s like my child“, specifies this truck driver from Faches-Thumesnil in the North at the microphone of France Blue. “She went regarding her life, on the berth, the dashboard, she looked at the road.“
At the end of January, during a break in a roadside restaurant in Saint-Jean-de-Védas, the cat and its owner were separated: “It happened in the middle of the night, I had eaten my meal, when I got back into the truck, I turned off the ignition badly. She had to get into the passenger seat, she stuck her head between the curtains and the window, and she escaped that way. I was desperate“, explains the driver.
An open jackpot
When Marco understands that his cat is no longer there: “I got out of my truck, looked everywhere with my flashlight. There was scrubland on the other side, I called until 4-4:30 a.m.“Marco first hears him meow, then nothing.”She must have managed to climb into the trailer of another truck“.
Marco then tells his story on social networks. After going back to the North, he returned once more to Hérault, where he searched for his pet for three days, without success. Internet users moved by his story offer to accommodate him, so that he can stay in the south of France for as long as he wants. A pot is even opened to pay for travel between the North and the South, and 500 euros are collected.
Found in Loire-Atlantique
It was finally nine days following its disappearance that the feline was found: “I received a call from the Saint-Brévin-les-Pins veterinary clinic“, says the owner. “A lady had picked up Maya from her garage. She went to tell neighbors, who took her to the clinic“. Thanks to the chip, Marco was able to be identified. The animal must have jumped from the truck in which he was riding.
From now on, Marco assures him: his cat will stay at home in Faches-Thumesnil. “She is doing well ! I was incredibly lucky to get her back, I don’t want it to happen once more“, he concludes.
