Losing Three Times in a Row, Chinese Coach Wants to Win Against Indonesia

The Chinese National Team has the ambition to recover after suffering three consecutive defeats in the Third Round of 2026 World Cup Qualification. Chinese coach Branko Ivankovic said the match against Indonesia would be a new beginning.

“The next match against Indonesia is the real start of this campaign and will require even greater efforts to achieve positive results,” Ivankovic was quoted as saying by Chinese media, Global Times.

China hosts Indonesia in the fourth match of Group C in Qingdao, Tuesday (15/10). Of the three matches that have been played, the two teams experienced quite contrasting fates.

Indonesia has gained three points from three matches and is unbeaten. Meanwhile, China suffered three consecutive defeats and still has zero points.

Ivankovic’s troops were beaten by Japan 0-7 then lost 1-2 to Saudi Arabia. Finally, they lost 1-3 against Australia. The Chinese national team scored two goals and conceded 12 goals which left them at the bottom of Group C.

Ivankovic continues to express optimism for his team because there are still seven matches left. They are aiming to finish in the top four.

“There are still seven games left. Our aim remains to finish in the top four of the group, so we can keep our hopes of qualifying for the World Cup alive,” said Ivankovic. (Z-2)
