Trevor Moore scored in overtime and the Los Angeles Kings took the lead in their first-round series by beating the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 on Friday night.
Moore’s goal was awarded following a several-minute video review. Gabriel Vilardi seemed to touch the puck higher than the permitted height regarding ten seconds before the decisive goal.
Officials ruled the goal a good one regardless and the Kings earned their second overtime win since the start of the series and now lead 2-1. The Kings won 4-3 in overtime in Game 1 following reversing a two-goal deficit in the third period.
“I saw the puck fly through the air in the corner and hit a stick,” Connor McDavid said. I reported it to the referees, but play continued and they scored. They consulted the resume and I imagine they determined that the decision might not be overturned. »
Alex Iafallo and Adrian Kempe hit the mark in regulation time for the Kings.
McDavid replied for the Oilers with his first two goals of the playoffs.
After coming into the locker room down a goal following Iafallo’s net with 33 seconds left in the first period, the Oilers took the lead thanks to two quick goals from McDavid on the power play in the second. He scored two virtually identical goals with precise shots 1:40 apart.
Leon Draisaitl was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct following slashing Drew Doughty following McDavid’s second goal and Kempe then took the opportunity to tie the game with his third goal of the series.
McDavid was shaken by contact with Doughty moments before his second goal. He went into a glide due to knee-to-knee contact and was seen chasing pain to the bench of his own followingwards. However, he remained in the game.
“We have to play smarter,” Draisaitl admitted. I got a bad penalty and I’m responsible for it, but I’m not sure what the standards are right now.
« [Les arbitres] let obvious knee-to-knee contact pass directly under their eyes and they call a slashing penalty immediately followingwards. This gesture was not intelligent on my part, I am aware of it, but I do not really know what the standards are at the moment, ”he repeated.
The tension then escalated and Doughty had to go to the locker room momentarily following being hit once morest the boards by Evander Kane.
Joonas Korpisalo made 38 saves in net for the Kings. Opposite Stuart Skinner stopped 28 shots in the loss.
