Six cases reported in San Fernando and others
Los Angeles County reported its first case of West Nile virus this year.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced on the 25th that “a total of six cases of infection have been confirmed in the Antelope, San Fernando, and San Gabriel Valley areas.” “The patients are all recovering.”
West Nile virus is mainly transmitted by mosquitoes. Symptoms of infection are similar to those of the flu, including fever, headache, and vomiting. A skin rash may also appear. Rarely, encephalitis or meningitis may occur in less than 1% of patients.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles County reported 17 cases of infection last year, of which 12 were hospitalized and one died.
