Time is quickly running out for Los Angeles County’s trainwreck of a District Attorney, George Gascón.
According to a new poll conducted by Remington Research Group and commissioned by district attorney candidate Nathan Hochman, embattled Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón is in big trouble with county voters.
The survey found that only 18 percent of county voters believe that Gascón deserves another term, while a whopping 54 percent said he did not.
Gascón would be well-advised to go following his nearest competitor. Unfortunately, you can’t debate Undecided.
Sixty percent of Angelinos felt less safe than they did a year ago, 11 percent said they felt more safe, and 12 percent got mugged or carjacked while they were answering the question.
It doesn’t matter what number you look at for Gascón, they’re all awful.
Who does he think he is, Joe Biden?
I guess destroying public safety really will cause county voters to sour on a District Attorney. Go figure.
Gascón laughably claims that the public is safer in LA because of him, but you’d have to be delusional or on drugs to believe that (which admittedly many are).
Here are the facts:
In Los Angeles County, hate crimes are up over 100 percent from 2019 to 2023, with Jewish hate crimes up 28 percent just this year.
And that’s just among Ivy League university presidents.
Restaurant burglaries are up 103 percent from 2019 to 2023, commercial burglaries are up 29 percent this year, and commercial robberies up 19 percent this year.
Retail theft in LA is up an eye-popping 123 percent this year, which tells me that a lot of smash and grab robbers haven’t discovered Costco yet.
The only major category going in the right direction was violent crime, and that was only by a tick. After increasing during 2021 and 2022, violent crime was down 2 percent this year in LA, mostly because the violent criminals all ran out of bullets.
Also, Chris Brown was on tour.
It doesn’t sound like we are safer to me — or to anyone else in Los Angeles County, for that matter.
Let’s face it, the leading cause of death in Los Angeles is George Gascón. And voters are on to it.
I’ve had many of the candidates running to replace Gascón on my KABC-AM radio show, and here’s my impression of them so far:
Former federal prosecutor Nathan Hochman is solid on the issues, but very concerned regarding the public finding out that he was, or still is, a Republican, so he overcompensates by toning down what he actually thinks, and it shows. Given the crisis we are in, I’d like to see more passion out of him.
LA County Deputy District Attorney and Vice President of the Los Angeles Association of Deputy District Attorneys Eric Siddall’s big thing is, he’s a union guy. If he’s elected, look for homeless panhandlers to unionize. His problem is that he misses the big picture concerns of an out-of-control crime problem, and the need for urgent reform. I gave him countless opportunities, and he refused to criticize elected Democrats who enable Gascón, doesn’t want to repeal Prop 47, and isn’t interested in bringing the death penalty back.
Hard pass.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Debra Archuleta is a straight-talker who’s known to be pretty blunt. Like the time she referred to serial rapists as “criminals”.
Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Hatami is the most engaged candidate in the day to day battles regarding the failures of that office. Whether it is the woman who was sexually assaulted in downtown Long Beach, or the teenage girl who was brutally beaten by an adult at a Harbor City McDonalds, Hatami is consistently getting it right. It’s not hard to visualize what kind of DA Hatami would be – he’d be the anti-Gascón.
Federal prosecutor Jeff Chemerinsky has not appeared on my show, but I’m not his audience. He appears to be a bit of a left-wing egghead. In fact, if he was any more woke he’d have insomnia.
His logic is that the public likes Gascón’s policies, and just finds his personality to be obnoxious.
Good luck selling that.
The others haven’t made any discernible impression on me at all.
Whoever makes the November ballot with Gascón will likely be the next District Attorney of LA County. Outside of Chemerinsky, any of them would be a dramatic improvement over George Gascón.
Tick, tock, George. Tick, tock.
