Elias, thanks for joining us. Let’s dive straight in. What’s the first thing an aspiring actor should do when they see a casting call they’re interested in, like, say, one for a lead role in a short film like ‘Everything, eventually, sooner or later’ looking for actors in Los Angeles?

Thanks for having me! The very first thing is to carefully read the entire casting call. Don’t just skim it! Understand the project type – is it a short film, a feature, reality TV? – and, most importantly, what the role entails.Pay close attention to the age range, the required skills, and any specific instructions for the audition. If the description is vague,and something doesn’t align with you,think twice before applying.

That makes perfect sense. And what about the projects that don’t specify an hourly rate, such as ‘spider-Man: Fallout,’ Fan-Film’ seeking Extras and ‘The Girl With No Talent’ searching for the lead role, Charlotte? Should actors still pursue those?

That’s a tricky one. in most cases, I’d proceed with caution. Not specifying an hourly rate can sometimes mean it’s a non-paying gig, or that compensation might be deferred or in the form of “copy, credit, and meals.” If you’re just starting out and building your resume and reel, and the project aligns with your passion, it might be worth considering. Though, always clarify the payment situation upfront. Don’t be afraid to ask! It’s a buisness, and your time is valuable. For fan films like the Spider-Man project, weigh the potential exposure against your needs.

Many of these casting calls, such as ‘Assimilate’ and ‘Fair Wind Blowing Warm,’ are looking for actors in the Los Angeles area. What advice woudl you give to someone relocating to LA to pursue acting?

Los Angeles is competitive, but also full of opportunity.My advice is to come prepared and strategic. First, have your acting “ducks in a row” – professional headshots, a well-crafted resume, and a solid reel showcasing your talent. Network, network, network! Attend workshops, screenings, and industry events. Build relationships with other actors, filmmakers, and casting directors. Also, get agreeable with rejection. It’s part of the process.Persistence and resilience are key in this industry. And learn to manage your finances; it’s not always a steady income!”

With broad casting calls like that, the key is to highlight what makes you unique.Think about what you can bring to the table that no one else can. Craft a compelling cover letter that showcases your personality and relevant experience. Share specific examples of your content creation or life experiences that would make you a compelling interview subject. If you’re auditioning, think about what you want the main theme of your interview to be.

what’s one thing you wish you knew when you were first starting out in the industry? Plus, what opportunities did you find when you were applying for roles?

Grate question! I wish I had known how crucial self-care is. This industry can be emotionally taxing. Take care of your mental and physical health. Build your support system with friends,family,or a therapist. I found that student films,short films,and independent projects really helped me find out what I was good at,plus they were vital in building my reel. The experience I had on those projects was invaluable.A lot of us in the industry are just wanting to make something great and are willing to help each other.
