‘Los Andariegos’: network accused of illegal trafficking of 1,082 migrants

After several months of investigation, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Police Dijín, with the support of the North American authorities, dismantled an illegal network attributed to 42 migrant trafficking events, in which 1,082 foreign citizens were clandestinely transported.

In the operation they were captured eight alleged members of the criminal organization known as ‘The Wanderers’‘, accused of illegally transporting more than a thousand migrants.

A comprehensive scheme to make money through the illegal transport of migrants was set up by several people, according to the police. The operation was carried out simultaneously in Envigado, Sabaneta and Bellowhere authorities, together with those of the United States, managed to arrest the alleged migrant traffickers from Cuba, Haiti, China and Somalia, among other countries.

Apparently, the migrants entered through the border with Ecuador and then the transported by land in buses and taxis, on a route that passed through Cali, Cartago, La Virginia, Pereira, Medellín, Necoclí, Acandí, Capurganá, and finally to the United States.

In addition, it was discovered that the victims were accommodated in hotels that participated in the illegal operation, with the aim of hiding their presence in cities such as Medellín.
