LORENZO Musetti defeated Taylor Fritz in five sets to set up a Wimbledon semi-final once morest seven-time champion Novak Djokovic.
Musetti came from a set down to beat Fritz 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in the Wimbledon quarter-finals on Wednesday (10/7).
Asked what it meant to him to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals, Musetti said: “After the birth of my son, this is second place.”
“In terms of my career, this is the best day of my life,” he continued.
Previously, Djokovic was confirmed to advance to the Wimbledon semifinals without having to compete following his opponent, world number nine Australian Alex de Minaur, withdrew due to a hip injury.
Musetti’s record once morest Djokovic is not great. The Italian has won just once in six meetings with two losses at the French Open, in the last 16 in 2021 and in the third round in May.
Musetti said Djokovic is a legend, especially at Wimbledon.
“I expect an exciting duel and the toughest for me. However, I am an ambitious person and like to face challenges,” he said. (bbc/Z-1)
