Developer Hexworks and distributor CI Games revealed this Monday (04) that update 1.6 for Lords of the Fallen is now available on all platforms. The patch includes changes to the initial tutorial area, better enemy balance, changes to the visual aspect of the Umbral realm and support for the PlayStation 5 Pro with the addition of enhanced performance mode.
Check out the biggest highlights of the update below, according to CI Games:
Gameplay:
Enemy density: Based on player feedback, we’ve adjusted certain monster encounters to create a smoother, more engaging combat experience, isolating instances to prevent monsters from stacking up. Returning players may find it worth starting over, as we’ve added some new surprises along the way! (The original enemy distribution and density can still be accessed through NG+ modifiers.)
Ranged Enemies: Adjusted the perception of certain ranged units to correct cases that seemed unfair or unrealistic.
Pure: Platforming in Pilgrim’s Perch has been refined with improved indicators, making jumping clearer and navigation smoother.
Player vs. player: To elevate the skill-based gameplay in player versus player mode, we’ve rebalanced the scaling mechanics, especially when it comes to magic-infused weapons and spells. These adjustments apply exclusively to player versus player, so PVE players can continue with their current builds without being affected.
Attack displacement: Some weapon attacks have received small adjustments to reduce movement, providing a greater sense of control, preserving effectiveness and supporting your playstyle.
Improved tutorial, onboarding, and startup experience:
Improved Lighting in the Desecrated Tomb: Improved lighting and visual adjustments make this initial tutorial area clearer and easier to navigate.
Gradual Tutorialization on Umbral: Basic skills like “soullay” and “syphoning” now have dedicated tutorial spaces later on in Redcopse, allowing new players to engage with each feature more gradually.
Simplified first jump tutorial: We’ve refined the jumping tutorial to be more accessible.
Lightreaper boss tweak in NG0: To clarify the intentional design of this encounter, we have removed the Lightreaper boss fight from the tutorial area for NG0 players. Rest assured: the Lightreaper is still lurking in Mournstead and will return as a surprise in NG+.
A More Immersive Umbral Realm for Explorers:
Umbral, the parallel realm intertwined with the living world of Axiom, is accessible at any point in the game, offering an expansive world of alternate paths, hidden treasures, and secrets. We know how much you enjoy exploring Mournstead, and many of you have asked for a more exploration-friendly Umbral realm. Embracing this idea, we made some adjustments to enhance its immersive vibe while preserving its mysterious and challenging nature.
While Umbral remains intentionally hostile, we’ve made adjustments to its sounds, visuals, and enemy spawn curve. Threads (native to the Umbral) are now slower to detect your presence, allowing you some precious time to explore before the haunting of the realm intensifies. Eventually, the Scarlet Shadow will appear, forcing you to decide: escape or engage in an epic confrontation.
These changes make the Threshold more suitable for exploration, preserving its mysterious intensity and challenging atmosphere.
Dynamic ambient sound: Initial entry into the Umbral is now accompanied by subtler sounds, increasing in intensity the longer you stay, reaching a peak before finding an exit or risking facing the Crimson Reaper.
Adjusted enemy spawn curve: Enemy appearances are now better paced to create a smoother, more gradual build-up of tension.
More time for Sombra Escalate: You will now have more time to explore before the Scarlet Shadow emerges, increasing the suspense.
Reduced vignette effect: Based on player feedback, the vignette effect has been smoothed out to improve visibility when exploring Umbral.
Lighter Umbral Eggs: We’ve added special VFX to eggs to spawn Umbral natives, as we noticed some players had difficulty distinguishing between active and inactive ones.
Performance improvements:
We’ve implemented additional performance improvements in several graphically demanding areas of the game, optimizing the experience for players on lower-spec computers.
PlayStation 5 Pro:
Com Lords of the Fallen Now taking full advantage of the power of PlayStation 5 Pro (with an enhanced performance mode running at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second based on 1440p, and quality mode running at native 4K resolution and 30 frames per second), get ready for a new wave of players adventuring in Mournstead! Don’t forget to welcome them, whether with a warm greeting in co-op play or the cold edge of your sword in player versus player.
Lords of the Fallen is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC (Steam and Epic Games).
Welcome to the Dark World of Lords of the Fallen: Update 1.6 Unpacked!
So, here we are! The developers at Hexworks and CI Games have spilled the beans on update 1.6 for Lords of the Fallen. Honestly, can we get a round of applause? If I had a coin for every update these days, I could probably buy an actual sword and take on the boss myself!
Now, let’s dig into the meat of this update because, I must say, it’s got more layers than an ogre on a diet! The patch rolls out smoother gameplay, better enemy balance, and even some visual tweaks to the Umbral realm. Oh, and for those rocking a PlayStation 5 Pro, they’ve thrown in an enhanced performance mode! So it seems like it’s not just the players getting an upgrade – our consoles are getting a little buffed in the gym, too!
Top Highlights from Update 1.6
Gameplay Enhancements
Developers have clearly been listening to the player feedback—not something you often hear, right? They’ve cranked up the enemy density adjustments, promising a more engaging combat experience. Fancy that! Nothing worse than monsters having a party in your face—unless you’re into that kind of thing, of course!
Ranged enemies? They’ve had a bit of a perception makeover! Picture them now looking a little less like they’ve jumped straight out of a cartoon—thankfully, they won’t seem quite so unrealistic.
And for all you platforming fans out there, the Pilgrim’s Perch has received some much-needed refinement. So if you’ve ever felt like jumping was an Olympic sport, you might find things a tad less frustrating now!
PVP players rejoice! Skill-based gameplay is getting a boost, with a rebalance of magic-infused weapons and spells. Just think: you won’t have to dodge lasers in slow-mo anymore.
Introductory Improvements
The tutorial has had a serious revamp, my friends! Better lighting in the Desecrated Tomb means you won’t fumble around like a bat in a dark cave. You’ll find it much clearer—and easier to navigate.
Gradual tutorialization? Yes, please! The game is now holding your hand—like a good friend who takes you through your first drink at the pub (minus the hangover, of course).
And they’ve even redesigned the first jump tutorial. I mean, if they’re not holding your hand, they’re certainly giving you a nice nudge!
An Immersive Umbral Experience
Oh boy, do we love exploration. The Umbral realm has been spruced up for explorers with all sorts of hidden gems and secrets. It’s like that cupboard at your grandparents’ house; you never quite know what you’ll find!
The threads will now take their sweet time before they come after you, giving you a breather to loot or just… you know, panic quietly.
Plus, they’ve lowered the vignette effect for better visibility—because no one likes squinting in a world where danger lurks behind every corner!
Performance Boosts and PS5 Pro Support
Lastly, let’s talk tech! They’ve managed to polish up the performance for players with lower-spec machines. It’s like giving a budget car a turbo boost—everyone appreciates that, right?
And for those lucky PlayStation 5 Pro owners? Prepare for 4K magic running at 60 frames per second. It’s like putting your graphics into overdrive—just don’t crash it, will you?
Conclusion: Embrace the Updates!
Lords of the Fallen continues to improve, adapting to the desires and frustrations of its players. So gear up, friends—whether you’re diving back into Mournstead with fresh eyes or showing new players the ropes, it looks like adventure awaits! Just keep an eye out for those monsters; they’ve been known to throw a surprise party now and then!
