Like several major publishers in the gaming market, Xbox held its most famous showcase of the year last week, the one that replaces that of E3 canceled for this year. The event hosted a host of announcements, each as interesting as the next. Among these, the presentation of a brand new version of the Xbox Series S. Microsoft’s smallest new gen video game console is getting a new black dress and doubling its storage memory.

Xbos Series S Carbon Black

With this move upmarket, the Xbox Series S intends to get a better place next to its big sister, the Xbox Series X. The new version, called Series S Carbon Black, is visually more successful compared to the old one. . The black chassis seems, indeed, much more elegant compared to the white that we found on the very first version. Moreover, this black color brings back the looks of old generations of Xbox consoles, including the very first launched in 2001.

Doubled storage memory

Having a revamped look is not always enough to seduce. In order to do things right, Xbox has therefore chosen to add a little more than 500 GB to the storage memory of the home console. With this addition, the storage space of the Xbox Series S goes from 500 GB on the regular version to 1 TB on the Carbon Black version. The concept takes on its full meaning when you know that this Series S is, like the digital version of the PlayStation 5, deprived of a disk drive and is dedicated to “all digital”.

No performance improvement

On the performance side, the new Xbox Series S Carbon Black console should share the same characteristics as the first version. This should not be a problem, the machine being largely efficient to run all compatible video games, including the most demanding ones and of course Starfield which will be the biggest triple A which will expand Microsoft’s catalog for the second part of the year.

This lack of performance improvement is, moreover, compensated by the very attractive price of the Xbox Series S Carbon Black. For 349 €, gamers will be able to afford this new video game console with 1 TB of memory while the old version, at 500 GB, costs 299 €. That’s a mere $50 difference, making it a real bargain for gamers enjoying the dematerialized editions of their Xbox games. The operation may ultimately have a positive impact for the Game Pass service since the console seems cut out for Cloud gaming.

See you in September

The Xbox Series S Carbon Black isn’t available right away. It will be necessary to wait until September 1st for the first deliveries to be made. Despite everything, it is already possible to place a pre-order on the Xbox site. There will be something for everyone, with Phil Spencer having secured an increase in Xbox Series inventory. The components crisis seems well and truly behind us!!!
