The Spanish Society of Aesthetic Medicine (SEME) has renewed its Board of Directors and appointed Juan Antonio López-Pitalúa as the new president of the society. “Thanks for the confidence. I have received this appointment with great enthusiasm”, she commented.

Lopez-Pitalua is aesthetic doctor graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Malagadedicated to Aesthetic Medicine since 1988 and exclusively since 1992. He has been part of the SEME Board of Directors for 13 years holding different positions of responsibility: initially as a member, later as first vice president, treasurer and always as head of training to date: “I consider continuous training in medicine to be of paramount importance, and especially in the field of Aesthetic Medicine.”

Now he faces the presidency excited and with a very clear priority: the defense of Aesthetic Medicine in Spain and Europe. In fact, already within the framework of its 37th National Congress, the SEME promoted the Declaration of Malaga, signed by representatives of the European associations of Aesthetic Medicine: Belgium, Italy, Portugal and Poland, with Spain at the head, for the recognition of aesthetic medicine as a specialty within the European Union, as explained by the Society in a note sent to the media.

Europe has been showing interest in the regulation of Aesthetic Medicine. The attention and concern for this matter is such that a CEN standard, CEN403, has been carried out. Nevertheless, “It is necessary to recognize Aesthetic Medicine through a specialtyas it would make it possible to homogenize training and guarantee it to the user, in addition to having a significant impact on patient safety”, López explained.
