López Obrador will discuss the situation in Venezuela with Lula and Petro

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced that he will talk this Thursday with his counterparts from Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and from Colombia, Gustavo Petro, about the crisis in Venezuela, where the three agree in requesting the totalization of the votes and foreign non-interference.

“Yes, it is likely that today we will speak by phone with President Lula and President Petro at noon in Mexico, around 2 in the afternoon (20:00 GMT). We are going to talk about the positions that are taken in the case of Venezuela. We have acted prudently,” said López Obrador in his morning conference.

The three leaders agree in requesting that all the minutes be published and waiting to accept some result and that foreign intervention in the country’s internal affairs not continue.

López Obrador has stated that “there is no evidence” of the electoral fraud that the opposition denounces, Lula has considered that “it is a normal electoral process” and Petro has warned of the need to not encourage violence.

The Mexican president announced that his approach in the joint talk will be “that there be no violence,” that “the will of the Venezuelans be respected,” that “the evidence, the minutes of the electoral result, be presented,” and “that there be no interference.” ”, particularly from the Organization of American States (OAS).

“We are going to wait (for the results) and yes we are going to have that conversation, but that is our proposal, that there be no violence, that confidence be given to the electoral authorities of Venezuela, that the minutes be collected, because it cannot be “Be it said that one won or the other won, if there is no evidence,” he explained.

López Obrador trusted Maduro’s statements, assuring that on Wednesday he “said that they are going to hand over the minutes” and he “is asking the corresponding electoral body to call on the parties, the candidates, to hand over the information they have.”

For this reason, he asked that “everyone participate, that everyone contribute the data they have.”

“If there is a will to clarify things and respect the citizens’ vote, an agreement will be reached. I wish that, that an agreement is reached, that there is dialogue, and that the evidence is available, but that we do not go ahead and disqualify anyone and wait,” he indicated.

On the other hand, he questioned the role of the OAS in the conflict for “establishing itself as an electoral judge,” by defending Mexico’s absence in the urgent meeting that the organization called on Wednesday.

The president indicated that the elections are “a matter that fundamentally corresponds to Venezuelans.”

“By not acting with prudence, the OAS does not help, that is why we do not attend, because it seems like an appendix of hegemonic governments or right-wing conservative governments, authoritarian, actually undemocratic,” he said.
