López Obrador rejects interference by the US ambassador

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, expressed this Friday his rejection of the interventionist statements of the United States (US) ambassador, Ken Salazar, regarding the judicial reform proposal promoted by the Government.

During his usual press conference, the president warned that there have recently been disrespects towards the sovereignty of Mexico.

“Lately there have been acts of disrespect for our sovereignty such as this unfortunate, reckless statement by Ambassador Ken Salazar, yesterday (Thursday), but a diplomatic note has already been made, an estrangement,” he reported, quoted by media.

Furthermore, López Obrador asserted that he maintains what was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “because we do not accept interference, we do not accept that any representative of foreign governments intervenes in matters that only Mexicans have to resolve.”

“It is a strange thing for the embassy and we are going to hand it over to them. I hope this does not happen again,” she said.

The US ambassador made several criticisms of the judicial reform, including that the election of judges through popular vote could put at risk “the functioning of Mexico’s democracy and the integration of the economies of the United States, Mexico and Canada,” they noted. local media.

In the letter sent to the Embassy of U.S., the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that the position expressed by Salazar “represents an unacceptable action of interference, contravenes the sovereignty of the United Mexican States and does not reflect the degree of mutual respect that characterizes the relations between our governments.”
