López Obrador proposes impeaching the president of the SCJN

The Mexican ruler thus accused the magistrate Norma Piña of handing over to a minister who “has always defended potentates” a file worth between 30,000 and 35,000 million pesos with which they were seeking Avoid paying taxes and taxes of a company which, although not mentioned, refers to the businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego, owner of a television station, Banco Azteca and Grupo Elektra.

He recalled that these challenges are “res judicata” and that both files had already been through the Court, where it was decided that they were not within the jurisdiction of the ministers, so they went to a tribunal that determined that those taxes should be paid. But after another legal appeal the file returned to the Court.

“If they don’t resolve it before I finish (on October 1), I’ll leave it to them, just so they can follow up, so they don’t forget, because they’re thinking that if time passes, nothing will happen,” he added.

He said that the request for impeachment against Minister Norma Piña would give rise to the belief that his government is persecuting her, and that he has decided not to follow that path.

In recent days, it has emerged that the president of the SCJN has admitted two appeals, one for a tax credit of 18.455 billion pesos, for the issuance of tax payments in 2013, and another for a tax credit of 1.431 billion pesos dating back to 2008.

The first case was referred to the minister Alberto Perez Dayanof the Second Chamber of the Court, which will propose a resolution and submit the case to a vote of its peers, so it will be resolved by the five ministers that make up the Chamber, and not by the entire panel of 11 ministers.

The 2008 tax credit case will be analyzed by the minister Yasmin Esquivel Mossawho must propose a project for her and her four colleagues to discuss and vote on.
