Lopez Obrador declares pause in relation to US and Canadian embassies – Informador.mx

The President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obradordeclared that there will be a “pause” in the relationship with the embassies of the United States and Canada, after they criticized the reform of the Judicial Branch.

U.S. Ambassador Ken Salazar warned of risks to democracy arising from the election of judges last Thursday; he warned that the government’s judicial reform puts democracy in Mexico and trade relations with the United States at “risk.” USAin addition to warning that the popular election of judges would facilitate the interference of cartels in justice.

Later that day, Canadian diplomat Graeme C. Clark warned in statements to the agency EFE of “concerns” from investors regarding the reform to the PJ, which would be approved in September, when López Obrador’s party, Morena, and its allies, have the majority necessary to modify the Constitution.

“The relationship continues, but hopefully there will be a ratification on their part that they will be respectful of the independence of Mexico, of the sovereignty of our country, but as long as there is no such thing and they continue with this policy, there is a pause,” López Obrador declared in his morning press conference today, Tuesday, August 27.

He clarified that “the pause” It’s only with the ambassadorsbut it will not affect relations with the governments of those countries.

“Pausing means that we are going to give ourselves our time,” projection.

López Obrador acknowledged that “everyone (including countries) has the right to demonstrate,” but that “The Constitution establishes in its article 89 that the president must adhere to the principles of non-intervention.”

For this reason, he accused the governments of the US and Canada of “They would like to have influence in matters that only concern Mexicans.”

“How are we going to allow the ambassador (Salazar), with all due respect, this is not a matter of a dispute between enemies, but how are we going to allow him to think that what we are doing is wrong? But we are not going to tell him to leave the country, no, but we do have to read the Constitution to him,” said López Obrador.

And about Canada He said: “What a coincidence that at the same time that they are speaking out in Mexico through the Embassy (of the United States), the Canadians are doing the same? Which is also embarrassing, with all due respect to the Government of Canada, that is, it seems like an associated State, together.”
