Mexico’s lawsuit against Ecuador

The Mexican ruler questioned the delay in resolving the lawsuit that Mexico made against Ecuador before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) after the Ecuadorian police raided the Mexican Embassy in Quitowhere they forcibly took Glas, who had been sheltering there since last December.

“At the same time, there is a complaint against the Government of Ecuador for violating our sovereignty by breaking into our Embassy in Quito. It is very regrettable that the International Court of Justice has not yet resolved this matter,” he said.

Lopez Obrador and the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardohave rejected the Ecuadorian government’s requests for dialogue Daniel Noboa arguing that the lawsuit should be resolved by the ICJ and that Ecuador should apologize for the raid on the diplomatic headquarters.

The Mexican president said that the International Court is one of “these UN bodies that must be renewed” because “what is the point of all this bureaucratic scaffolding?”
“The UN is just there as a decoration, as a flowerpot, a burdensome, deficient bureaucratic apparatus that does not help prevent human rights violations, political confrontation between states, violence, wars, nothing,” he said.

Following the arrest, former Vice President Glas, who served with the former president Rafael Correa (2007-2017) was confined in La Roca, Ecuador’s maximum security prison, in the city of Guayaquil, for having pending serve an eight-year sentence for two convictions in corruption cases.
