MEXICO CITY (EFE).- The president Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated this Monday that “the authorities are acting” following the murder of the 8-year-old girl, Camila Gomez Ortegaand the lynching of one of his alleged attackers in Taxco de Alarcón, municipality of the southern state of Guerrero.

“The corresponding investigation is being carried out, action is being taken, it has to do with the local authorities, and we want to have all the data to provide good information on this matter. Tomorrow the members of the security cabinet will be here and they will give a general report,” he explained in his morning conference.

The president referred to the kidnapping and subsequent murder last Wednesday from Camila in Taxco, where residents protested and They lynched a woman to death, who was beaten along with two men, for pointing out that they were allegedly responsible for killing the girl.

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Guerrero stated last Thursday that it was investigating the death of the minor as a femicide and the death of the alleged perpetrator as a qualified homicide, in addition to reporting the arrest of the other two alleged suspects.

The events caused shock at the national level and aroused demands for justice from the opposition presidential candidateXóchitl Gálvez, and the Catholic Church, who on Sunday asserted in an editorial that “this fact shows several of the problems that have fractured the social fabric.”

Lopez Obrador He now recognized that “this is a very regrettable case, very sad for everyone, of course more so for the family, friends, and for Mexicans in general, because it has to do with the loss of human life, of a girl and also of a lady.”

The president promised that on Tuesday there will be a report from his Citizen Security, Navy and National Defense officials “on everything that has happened since the girl left her house, when they found her, the arrest warrants, the acts of these execution or lynching, and all the antecedents.”

“We will see if the intervention of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic is necessary,” he said.
