Forcalquier, 6,000 inhabitants, a very relative rurality: many tourists cross the Alpes de Haute-Provence, neo-rurals flock and stay in an environment borrowed from traditions and whose strong agricultural economic activity resonates in this small town under the watchful eye of more than 30 public or private cameras. The program concocted in a solidarity and voluntary way by all the partners was voluntarily very diversified to allow to approach these subjects thanks to different practices and thus to allow to equip all the participants according to the desires, the needs, the affinities! The desire for such an event was to mobilize the public to inform, raise awareness and identify the omnipresence of digital technology and its consequences, from an early age while contextualizing the reality of rural life under surveillance as might be the case. to be an urban area in tension.
This surveillance policy generates strong feelings and sometimes little or no awareness that collective reflection can address by creating links, support, a feeling of reappropriation of our public spaces. The public navigated the premises of the Jardin des Cordeliers, during a rainy day, under the gaze of the gendarmes present in particular during the mapping party (walk to create a map of the video surveillance system!).
It should be noted that this civic information and awareness-raising activity around a costly project of the municipality has aroused the interest of the authorities. We were able to see, thanks to this mapping carried out with the valuable contribution of volunteers from Technopolice Marseille, that a very large number of private cameras existed and were not correctly reported, but that the supposedly public cameras were not either!

The regulations relating to video surveillance indeed impose formal signage, which Forcalquier ignores. We were able to see that a few days later, two incomplete panels were added, thus signifying the existence of two cameras.
Families and the public of 04 have sometimes come from afar to meet these players in digital education and learn how to protect themselves, to continue dreaming of a free and confident world. A dynamic was therefore born from this day: that of questioning control and self-control once more, of exploring authoritarian logics and the use of advanced technologies which contribute to repression, to all security….
In response to this reactionary movement, we will promote a movement of transformation by creating spaces where the imagination can still exist without discrimination, without mistrust, without normalization or guilt. The resources born of this day:
