Longevity │ 100 years old! Howard Tucker, the world’s oldest practicing doctor, shared 5 rules of life to live a long and healthy life!
Howard Tucke was born in 1922. He studied medicine at Ohio State University when he was a student. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy to participate in World War II. Later, during the Korean War in the 1950s, he served as the director of the neurology department of the Atlantic Fleet. After getting married, he moved back to his hometown to open a clinic, and he is the oldest practicing doctor until now! At the age of 69, he studied law courses. Not only did he obtain a lawyer’s license, but he also combines medicine with law to assist the court in handling medical cases. However, he emphasized that the real secret of longevity is that there is no secret, but to make full use of the time you have.
Longevity doctor’s five life rules for living a happy and long life:
Living Longer 1. Never spend time retiring
Howard Tucke, who has worked for more than 75 years, has been certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest practicing doctor. And his wife is still working in psychoanalysis and psychiatry at the age of 89. During the epidemic, he would work five to six days a week, and then adjusted to directing a resident doctor for 3 days. When I’m not working, I spend time with my 4 children and 10 grandchildren, climbing snow-capped mountains, watching experience games, and more. He even pointed out that if you are lucky enough to have a job you like and your body allows you to continue working, you may wish to consider postponing your retirement age. Since many people become less active in their daily lives following retirement, this increases the risk of cognitive decline.
Longevity 2. Never lose shape
Howard Tucke has always maintained the habit of sports, such as swimming, jogging, hiking and skiing, until he was in his 80s. Although he is no longer skiing and not as active as he used to be, he still runs on the treadmill to keep his side strong and healthy. And studies have found that something as simple as a 15-minute walk outside can reduce your risk of dying by nearly 25 percent
Long life 3. Never smoke
Howard Tucke also wanted to smoke when he was still a middle school student, so he told his father regarding his idea. His father’s words dispelled his thoughts: “I don’t think it matters, but why would someone want to put something other than fresh air into his lungs, and his life is so short. Smoking can cause cancer, stroke, Peripheral artery disease, coronary heart disease, other lung disease, and cardiovascular disease.
Longevity Living 4. Never Limit Yourself
Being in moderation with yourself allows you to enjoy life to the fullest without going overboard. He also indulges in cocktails and steak, but not every day. Instead, he attributed his healthy eating to his wife, who prepares salads for every meal, and also has different green vegetables, such as cabbage and broccoli. He further emphasized: “The real secret of longevity is that there is no secret. Everyone lives day by day and then dies, so we must make the most of the time we have.”
Longevity 5. Never waste knowledge
He has been engaged in neurology for more than 70 years and has witnessed the birth of lobotomy in medicine to the latest computer imaging technology. He loves to pass on what he has learned to doctors and students, and Howard Tucke has learned a lot from them. He has also participated in the filming of documentaries to record his own life. He believes that it is also a joy to share his career story with the next generation.
