A study on postnatal conditions was carried out by Australian and Swiss specialists. More than a third of women who have given birth suffer long-term health problems.
Long-term health problems
Postnatal conditions persist for months or even years following the birth.childbirth. Australian and Swiss researchers have looked into this subject in a studyreports TF1. The results were published Wednesday in the scientific journal The Lancet.
More than a third of women who have given birth experience health problems in the long term, which represents 40 million women each year worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Several diseases
According to this study, dyspareunia is the most common health problem. This pain during sexual intercourse affects 35% of women followingchildbirth. Back pain is in second place with 32% of them. They are followed by anal incontinence, urinary incontinence, anxiety, depression, perineal pain, fear ofchildbirth or secondary infertility.
Problems occur following 6 weeks
Many efforts have been made over decades to combat maternal mortality. However, many medium-term and long-term complications (and chronic complications) occur more than six weeks following delivery. They remain less visible, or even completely ignored, according to specialists.
The latter indicated that these health problems occur when young mothers are generally no longer followed. Indeed, postpartum care often does not extend beyond six weeks.
Care throughout their lives
The director of the Sexual and Reproductive Health Department atOMSPascale Allotey, spoke on the subject.
